Complete Beginner Intro to Pointed Pen Calligraphy
If you have never tried pointed pen calligraphy or ... if you tried and were frustrated or ... if you would like a complete beginner refresher, you are invited to attend a FREE one-evening complete beginner intro to pointed pen calligraphy.
We will cover:
1) the supplies needed to get started with the most success
2) the basic strokes and how to make them
3) how to make corrections for common beginner issues (ink too thick or too thin, not preparing the nib properly, how to line up the pen to the paper, when to lighten your pressure on the pen).
This intro will be a helpful aid to those who want to take Nina Tan's in-person Copperplate Bootcamp on October 7 and 8 at CMU.

If you would like to follow along with supplies, here are some very simple supplies you may find at a local arts store such as Artist & Craftsman or you can order from John Neal Bookseller.
- Non-waterproof ink works best - such as Higgins Eternal ink
- Oblique nib holder
- Pointed calligraphy nib - Zebra G or similar
- Smooth paper such as Borden & Riley Boris marker layout, HP premium laser paper, Rhodia
- Small container for ink
- Water container
- Cloth to wipe nib
Please note: Karen is teaching Copperplate: Classical to Contemporary class in-person at the Lauri Ann West community center beginning September 13. A supply kit will be provided for each enrolled student and the content in the first class will include the material covered in this online one-evening event.
